PPAC Spotlight

At Price Performing Arts Center, we pride ourselves on our highly trained and professional staff.  Classes are offered in a professional and structured environment where discipline is demanded.  We provide a total dance training experience through educating our students on dance history/terminology, and proper dance technique.  Our curriculum is diversified to provide opportunities to all aspiring dancers from all backgrounds and skill levels.  We provide the right atmosphere for all students to be successful in achieving their independent goals, as well as, enhancing their personal growth and development.

BALLET

 

Baby Ballet 
(3-5 yrs)

Students are introduced to basic ballet movements, motor movement and coordination skills.  These skills will be emphasized through center floor and partnering exercises.  The students explore creativity through interpretive movements in a fun but structured environment.

Pre-Ballet I (A, B, & C)  6-9 yrs, Pre-Ballet II and  
Pre-Ballet II (Adv.)  7-11 yrs

Students progress to the basic fundamentals of ballet including body placement and alignment, feet positions, basic port de bras, basic barre technique and introductions to basic ballet combinations.

Grade 1 Ballet 
(10 yrs & up)

Concentration on fundamentals of ballet and ballet positions.  Introductions to 1/4, 1/2, and full turns.  Center floor exercises emphasize use of motor skills, port de bras, and basic jumps.  This class is designed for beginning students.

Intermediate Ballet 1 
(10-18 yrs)

Minimum requirement:  students have studied ballet for at least 6 years.  Concentration on intermediate level barre exercises, center floor combinations, strength, line, and stretch.

Intermediate Ballet 2  
(11 yrs & up)

Minimum requirement:  students have studied ballet for at least 6 years.  Concentration on intermediate/advanced barre exercises, center floor combinations, strength, line, and stretch.  Students will be introduced to performance skills and aggressive technique training.

Advanced Ballet    
(12 yrs & up)

Minimum requirement:  students have studied ballet for at least 8 years.  High level of concentration on advanced barre exercises, center floor, across the floor, and partnering exercises.  Students should be very knowledgeable on ballet terminology.  Students are expected to execute all movements on a performance level.

Male Technique

Required for all male students who are enrolled in technical classes.  Students will learn proper male technique for dance training and performances.  Emphasis are placed on barre, center floor, stretch/conditioning, and across the floor combinations.

TAP

 

Baby Tap  
(3-6 yrs)

Students are introduced to the fundamentals of tap dancing.  Emphasis on the basics, rhythm/timing, balance, coordination, and clarity of sound.  Center floor exercises enhance these skills and prepares them to advance to the next level.

Grade 1 Tap  
(4-6 yrs)

An aggressive beginner's class.  The class moves at a faster pace and focuses on center floor exercises to strengthen coordination, timing, and clarity of sound.

Grades 2 through 4 Tap

These levels introduce the student to Broadway Tap dancing styles.  Each level is a progression in barre technique, center floor, and traveling combinations.  This progression prepares the student for intermediate levels.

Grades 5 through 6 Tap

Considered to be an intermediate level.  Students must have at least 5 years of training before enrolling in these classes.  Introductions to Hoofing/Rhythmic tap dancing styles.  Students improve on progressions, rhythm variations, traveling steps, turns, and foot work.

Advanced/Intermediate Tap

Prepares the student for the Advanced level.  Emphasis on intricate foot work, rhythm variations, hoofing, style, and performance techniques.

Beginner's Adult Tap

Introductions to the fundamentals of tap dancing, center floor and across the floor exercises, and tap technique.

Intermediate Adult Tap

Student should have mastered the basic tap technique and has had a minimum of 3 years of training.  Emphasis on center and across the floor combinations to improve timing, clarity, and performance technique.

JAZZ

 

Baby Jazz  
(3-5 yrs)

Introduces the student to contemporary styles of dancing, concentrating on upper and lower body mobility, coordination, and flexibility.

Beginner's Jazz 1, Advanced/Beginner's Jazz 1, and    Beginner's Jazz 2

These classes reinforce the basics and progresses with each level.  Concentration on musicality, body movement, style, confidence, and control.

Intermediate Jazz 1 & Intermediate Jazz 2

Student must have a minimum of 4 years training and knowledgeable of ballet and jazz dancing terminology.  Students are introduced to various styles of jazz dancing and strengthen performance technique.  Emphasis on progressions, turns, jumps, combinations in center and across the floor.

Advanced Jazz

Student must have a minimum of 8 years training and knowledgeable of ballet and jazz dancing terminology.  Students strengthen various styles of jazz dancing and performance technique.  Exercises are included to improve strength, flexibility, coordination, and style.  Emphasis on progressions, turns, jumps, and combinations in center and across the floor.

Adult Jazz

This class is offered on a beginner's/intermediate level with a focus on the proper jazz dance basics, body placement, alignment, and freedom of movement.  Center and across the floor combinations incorporate various styles to make the class fun and progressive.

MODERN

 

Beginner's, Intermediate, Intermediate/Advance and Advanced Levels

This dance technique provides a fusion of contemporary and abstract styles of dancing.  Classes are offered in the Horton technique where the curriculum focuses on balance, control, strength and spatial movement.  The student progresses from Beginner's Intermediate, Intermediate/Advance to Advanced.

POINTE

 

Beginner's Intermediate and Advanced Levels

Students are extended the invitation to advance their students through participation in Pointe classes.  Students must be at least 11-years old and possess the knowledge regarding proper body placement and alignment.  This class is initially offered to all qualified students beginning at the Grade 1 Ballet level.  Students progress from Beginner's Intermediate, to Advanced.

TUMBLING

 

Tumbling I
(6-10 yrs)

Class curriculum includes stretching and strengthening exercises, basic tumbling technique and styles.

Tumbling II
(11 yrs & Up)

Class curriculum includes stretching and strengthening exercises, basic tumbling techniques and styles.  Progressions begin for more advanced tumbling techniques and acrobatic movement.

HIP HOP

 

Beginner's, Advanced/Beginner's, and Intermediate

Students learn east and west coast styles of hip hop movement.  This class offers something for people of all ages.  Emphasis are placed on coordination and fluidity of movement. 

Advanced

Students learn a variety of hip hop styles including flow and technical styles.  Emphasis are placed on learning fluidity of movement as well as precision of movement that is taught at an upbeat pace.  Basic jazz technique is required. Students progress from Beginner's, Advanced/Beginner's, Intermediate to Advanced.

AFRICAN

 

Children and Adult Classes

This class offers training in traditional African dance techniques and traditions.

YOGA

 

NO LEVELS

Class provided in a relaxed and stress free environment.  Students increase flexibility, mobility and body conditioning.  Adult students will enjoy this class as they free themselves from their daily routines and get "in tune" with their bodies.

PILATES

 

NO LEVELS

An adult fitness class, which is taught at the medium to high-impact level incorporating pilates warm-up and exercises, through ubody strength and pilates exercise equipment.  This class focuses on toning, strengthening, stamina and endurance.
